When a loved one dies of an overdose, friends and family members are left struggling with conflicting feelings of anger, shame, blame, and guilt, in addition to grief. The support group GRASP (Grief Recovery After Substance Passing) offers a safe, non-judgmental forum for people grieving the loss of a loved one due to substance abuse.
In this video from 2020, Berks GRASP Chapter Facilitator and Certified Grief Counselor Lori Kuhn discusses her own experience of losing a daughter to an overdose and offers insights into why grieving an overdose death is so hard. She also talks about processing grief, and ways to support someone suffering loss from substance abuse.
