Berks Drug Take Back Event Collects Over 250 Pounds of Drugs

May 3, 2024

On Saturday, April 27, members of SOS Berks joined up with the Berks County Medical Society, the Berks County District Attorney’s office and the Reading Fightin’ Phils to host a Drug Take Back event at FirstEnergy stadium. Despite chilly, damp weather, about 135 people drove up and dropped off their expired and unwanted medications. A total of 250 pounds of medication were collected, include 24 pounds of prescription drugs.

This event is held annually in April, in conjunction with National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. People who dropped off medications simply drove up, handed their unwanted items to a volunteer, and drove off. SOS Berks provided all attendees with medication disposal bags, copies of The Response magazine and information on other medication safety resources.

All medications collected are brought to a safe location and destroyed for proper disposal.
